Who said there are just three trimesters to pregnancy? Well, medically yeah but practically no! The fourth trimester is the most neglected one, and that is the postpartum recovery of a mother! If you or any one of your loved ones has just given birth, do not ignore the fourth trimester. Instead, take absolute care in this period as well and let us tell you how to with our absolute postpartum recovery guide here

Week 1

Since week 1 is just the beginning, you will face many problems, which will result in severe pain if not taken good care of. Your Vaginal region is likely paining along with the uterus. Your breasts would be sore, and if you had a postpartum c-section, you are recovering from major surgery as well.

Vaginal bleeding during this period is heavy, along with blood clots. Don't use tampons during this time as they are likely to cause infections.

Apart from this, Night sweats, uterine cramping, and mood swings will be accompanying you for a few weeks.

Weight loss will be another challenge for you. Even though you have just delivered a baby of around 12 to 15 pounds, your excess weight shedding is going to take a while.

Don't hesitate to ask for help. Take suggestions from doctors, neighbors, nurses and choose the right things in your postpartum recovery

Week 2

In this period, your vagina, breasts, uterus, and c section are recovering. Consider taking warm baths to soothe cramps, and some women place cabbage leaves inside their bras to relieve breast engorgement.

The Postpartum Vaginal bleeding must be lesser now. The overall cramping must be in control and bearable. Your body must be adjusting itself to a new and healthier form!

Week 3 to Week 6

You have just been through nature's miracle! However, it is pretty unnatural to expect your body to go back to the exact shape it was pre-pregnancy. You might still look pregnant, but your uterus is shrinking back to its regular size. At this point, you will be pretty much relaxed, and you should keep physical exertion to its bare minimum. Vaginal bleeding might be light now.

The only bad thing you feel in this period is the… Baby blues. Postpartum depression is one of the common things faced by women. Remember that the more you share, the more you would feel better! Contact and talk to your doctor regarding Postpartum depression during postpartum recovery when things seem unbearable.

6 Weeks to 6 Months

After six weeks, you must get a health check and a green signal from the doctor. After this, you can resume sexual activities and other forms of physically engaging exercises.

Even though your body must have mostly completed the postpartum recovery by this point, you might still face issues over bladder control, hair fall, and late periods.

Final Words

Hope this postpartum recovery guide has helped you. Remember that your physique is unique to itself, and these timelines are just estimates. Do not panic if something shifts over the other. Your body is going through miraculous changes; give it some time to recuperate!
